The Team

Steve Kirkham

Since receiving his designation as a Chartered Accountant in 1992, Steve has worked in his own small firm environment helping small to medium sized, owner-managed businesses deal with a variety of accounting and tax issues. With over 25 years experience in the public accounting arena, Steve has worked with numerous businesses and individuals and has had many dealings with various levels of government regarding tax and compliance issues.

Steve understands that simply preparing financial statements and filing both corporate and personal tax returns is not something in itself that brings great value to his clients. Although through this he is able to take a great burden off their shoulders and allow them peace of mind with respect to these mandatory requirements.

In order to better provide value to his clients, Steve has undertaken a commitment to offer them more of a proactive approach – looking forward into what they can do rather than dwelling on the past and what has already happened. Whether it is structuring affairs such that maximum tax savings are achieved or helping a client map out projections and goals for the coming years, Steve’s main goal is to see his clients prosper.

Outside of the office, Steve is kept busy with the family – his wife, Sherry, Erin (21), Justin (17) and Gavin (12). They all have varied interests to keep the parents “on the go”. Erin is at University of Waterloo doing a co-op in Environmental Studies, Justin is finishing up high school and is on the swim team, and Gavin plays both volleyball and basketball at his school. They all try to get some down-time in over the summer at the cottage where the kids enjoy various water sports behind their boat and Steve can sneak out early in the morning to get some fishing in.

Linda Harris – Administration

Residing in Oakville for 20 years, Linda has become an avid user of the many trail systems and walkways available throughout the area. She can often be seen taking her dog for lengthy walks along the 16 Mile Creek trails.

Linda has two children, one a recent university graduate and one currently enrolled in university and in whom she tries to instill her love of the outdoors. She and her husband enjoy the sport of power-walking and have entered numerous 10 km, half marathon and full marathon races in Ontario, New Brunswick, Cleveland and Big Sur, California. Hiking mountain ranges and trails has become another passion.

Linda is an important team member of Steve Kirkham C.A. Professional Corporation as she keeps us together. She’s responsible for ensuring client files are monitored as they come in and out of the office and ensures client paperwork is accurate and delivered on a timely basis. She keeps us organized and monitors the clients year ends to ensure we’re doing what we should do, when we should do it.

Ana Mancini

Ana was born & raised in Toronto. She moved to Burlington & then Waterdown. She worked for another accountant for over 20 years until he retired at which point she joined our firm. She and her husband, Ray, enjoy spending summer (and especially fall) vacations at the family cottage where they enjoy fishing, walking and water aerobics.

Sherry Skippen – Bookkeeper

Born and raised in Alberta, Sherry spent her first 30 years there. After school she worked for a large oil company in the accounting department. She and her husband, Grant, moved to Ontario in 1996 where Sherry took a job at Samuel Steel in Stoney Creek. She joined Steve’s company in 2007 as a staff accountant and enjoys her daily role of helping clients maintain their books and minimize their taxes.

At home in Burlington, Sherry has a Border Collie named Lucy and 2 cats (Rodney and Earl), along with her hubby to keep her busy. She joined a fitness group called “Tread Powerfully” and enjoys the way they have changed her life. Grant & Sherry also love to travel and renovate their home. There always seems to be a room that needs renovating. The map in her office pinpoints the places she’s seen and reminds her how lucky she is.

Derek Stevens

Derek is the newest member of the team but comes with almost 25 years of experience in notice to readers, review, audit, personal tax, corporate tax, foreign reporting and real estate.

Derek was born and raised in the GTA and received his BMath from the University of Waterloo in 1994.  He began working at a CA firm in downtown Toronto in January 1991 on a Coop placement and worked there until October 2015 when he joined our team.

We rarely see Derek in the office since he’s mostly on the road visiting clients or working out of his home office.  When he’s not working he enjoys spending most of his spare time at the cottage with family and friends enjoying the snow, boating, doing “forestry investigation” with Paige (6) or just being lazy on the dock.

Andre Wu – Senior Accountant

Andre joined the team in the Fall of 2006. He obtained his CGA designation in 2007 with a focus on auditing of small and medium-sized business. Andre also holds an MBA from York University and is very proficient with several accounting software applications.

Having first come to Canada in 1999, Andre really appreciates the support he has received from friends and colleagues over the years to make him feel at home. With two children, Martina and William, Andre and his wife are living in North-East Toronto. This helps provide our firm the opportunity to service clients in the east as well as west of the GTA.
